Introduction

In this article, we explain how you can create your own custom Dropbox App for use with the Dropbox Add-on. Dropbox secure file sharing.

I'm using dropbox now for work - i'm used to google drive. I like dropbox better but you don't have good instructions for creating subfolders the popup to enter name of folder doesn't give you the option to say where you want it to nest under. Took me way too long to figure out it just created it and modified the address to the subfolder immediately - seriously - i work onl. Dropbox Basic makes it easy to securely send large files to anyone, and collaborate easily on the files you share. Shared links: Easily create a link for any file in your Dropbox that you can paste into an email, chat, or text. Recipients won't need a Dropbox account—they can click the link to view and download the file. Create a folder on dropbox.com. Sign in to dropbox.com. Name your folder. Create a Paper folder on paper.dropbox.com. Note: Paper folders are only available to people on the old release of Dropbox Paper. The new 2020 release of Dropbox Paper allows you to keep your Paper docs in regular Dropbox folders.

This is optional and not required to use our Dropbox add-on, unless you need to have access to the Dropbox Upload Field or being able to upload files outside of the default app folder created for the Dropbox Add-On within your Dropbox user account, we recommend using the default connect to Dropbox button.

Note: Due to recent changes to the Dropbox API, currently the add-on doesn't support team level access.

Create an App

  1. Visit the Dropbox App Console.
  2. Click the Create app button.
  3. Under Choose an API section, select Scoped Access.
  4. Under Choose the type of access you need, select Full Dropbox.
  5. Enter a name for your custom app.
  6. If you have a personal and a business account which are linked, you will be asked to select which account you want to own the app. Once you make a selection, you will be asked to sign in to that account.
  7. Click the Create app button. You will be redirected to the control panel for your app. Note the presence of your App key and App secret on this page (not pictured). You will need to enter these into Gravity Forms to connect this custom app once you have followed the remaining steps.
  8. Add the OAuth Redirect URI provided in the add-on settings page to your Dropbox app settings under the OAuth2 Redirect URIs section.
  9. If you will be using the Dropbox Upload Field, which uses the Dropbox file chooser feature, enter the site domain under the Chooser / Saver / Embedder domains and then click Add.
  10. Once you have entered the information above, scroll up and click on the Permissions tab. On the permissions tab, you will need to select the files.content.write and files.content.read permissions in order to allow Gravity Forms to read your Dropbox user directories and to write files to them upon form submission.
  11. Click the Submit button at the bottom of the page for the new Permissions to take effect.

Configure the Add-On

  1. In a different tab go to the Forms > Settings > Dropbox page of your sites WordPress admin. And use the data taken at step 7 of the Create an App instructions above to complete the below steps.
  2. Enter the App key taken from the Dropbox control panel for your app.
  3. Enter the App secret from the Dropbox control panel for your app.
  4. Click the Click here to connect to Dropbox. button.

This article explains how to share files and folders with Dropbox. When you share a file or folder, the recipient receives an email with a link to the file or folder.

Note: The recipient must have a Dropbox account and sign in to that account to view or edit the file or folder that was shared with them. If you want to give view-only access to someone who doesn't have a Dropbox account, or doesn't want to sign in to view it, you can share with a link instead.

You can control whether people can edit, comment, or only view your files and folders, when you share them, and after you share them. Edits or comments that are made to a file or folder are updated live for everyone who they've been shared with.

Note: Users with individual Dropbox accounts need to explicitly add folders that you share with them to their Dropbox account. If you are a member of a Dropbox Business team, any personal folders that you share with other teammates will automatically be added to their Dropbox accounts.
